ETYEN, underwater vibes from Lebanon

ETYEN, underwater vibes from Lebanon

While randomly browsing articles, I stumbled upon ETYEN’s remix of a song by the recently-deceased Lebanese artist Wadih el Safi.

ETYEN is the stage name of a Lebanese electro artist called Samer Etienne Chami. He is based in Beirut and his beats mostly remind me of Gold Panda, BathsNosaj ThingXXYYXXFlying LotusTychothis artist whose name I can’t find anymore but who is very similar to Toro y Moi, and the many more trippy artists who make you feel like you have been swimming slow-motion underwater.

Anyway, we exchanged messages on SoundCloud and he confirmed that he’s indeed influenced by some of the artists mentioned above, as well as Jamie XX, Shlomo, Lapalux, Flume, but also Sigur Ros and Diplo. Still, ETYEN’s sound is  unique, experimental and so trippy.

ETYEN started producing electronic music 2 years ago. He was previously living in London doing what he loves most, while working freelance jobs on the side. Now that he is back in Beirut, he is working as a full time water engineer, and producing his music on the side. He says he hopes to ditch his day job one day and make a living out of his music. His new EP, “Happy New Year,” was released in March 2014.

My crushes are listed below. And for further awesomeness, visit his SoundCloud channel.
