Next up in our Soundtrack crushes: The September Issue, a documentary film released in 2009. It shows the behind-the-scenes drama surrounding American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, creative director Grace Coddington, and their staff during the production of the September 2007 issue of the magazine.
The documentary makes you realize a lot of things about the fashion industry, mainly that fashion is dissed because people are actually intimated by it. It also shows that it’s much more artistic and commercial than superficial and stupid.
Most importantly, it challenges the assumption that Anna Wintour is just a bitchy-controlling boss and Grace Coddington a weirdo with funny hair. These women have actually been shaping the trends and dynamics of the fashion industry for the past couple of decades and their power and influence make them two of the most inspiring women of our times.
